How to Measure Mattress Depth
Measure from the bottom edge to the highest point of the mattress, including permanently attached pillow tops.

Strip the bed. Place a rigid straightedge across the highest point of the mattress and measure vertically from the bottom edge to that height.

Top-only, fitted five-sided and zippered six-sided designs serve different needs.
Separate the sleeping-surface fabric from any fill and the waterproof membrane.
Check supported mattress depth and the exact washing and drying instructions.
How to make the decision
Include a permanently attached pillow top. Then compare the measurement with the protector maker’s supported depth—not merely a vague 'deep pocket' label.
